Our Senior Plus Team ...
Monday 4.30 pm to 7 pm

Many of our young people have been with us at SYD for a good many years, some of them since P1 so we would regard ourselves as a tight-working team. However, joining the group at this stage even having never participated in any drama group beforehand, would give a young person the chance to develop an amazing array of skills and confidence to help them transition to the next stages of their lives, from leaving school to moving onto college, university or work
.
We would like to help with positive steps to get them where they want to be. To enable young people to successfully promote themselves and prepare themselves for their next stages is an important development tool in their lives.

They can continue to build confidence, presentation skills, and self-esteem.

Development......

We’ll continue to work on core skills like voice, movement and acting by exploring a variety of theatre styles and methods as well as looking at different genres and playwrights.

We’ll take inspiration from things that interest our students – from texts, to stories, to music, to real life events both experienced or not.
We’ll look in more detail at character study and scene work and we will broaden our content as our young people mature. Our senior teams have a catalogue of devised and written plays often on difficult and challenging subjects.
We have always strived to make sure they are age appropriate and discuss themes with parents and carers. It has been our experience over many years, that tackling tricky issues is something of importance for a lot of young people as it is often their only outlet for discussion and self-expression, something we are very aware of.
We are also very aware of the benefit to mental health of having a place for creative expression and discussion that is safe and non-judgmental.

It's a journey of self-discovery.

Senior Plus Team Productions....
Every encouragement and support is given for our senior plus team to write, direct, act and produce their own performances.

This has in the past provided a real insight into the minds of our young people, which is both fascinating and thrilling at their levels of talent and bravery.

All these pieces of theatre are produced in front of a public audience to much acclaim and our young people have achieved many accolades.

Our Senior Plus team also take on meaty roles in their own small cast performances of other authors plays and take great delight in participating in all-age productions and shows with the rest of the SYD company.
The experience the senior plus team bring to these productions is immense and they are great role-models for the younger children coming through.

We are very aware for our Senior and Senior Plus teams, the type of commitment that exams can take up and are totally supportive of our members during these times. A commitment to a large part may not be appropriate at certain times, but on the other hand a smaller role can be a wonderful distraction and stress reliever for our more experienced members.

Opportunities....
Our Senior Plus Team develops close links with our management committee and especially our creative volunteers through fund-raising, organisation and assisting to run their club.
Their development as a young person runs parallel with their development as a member of SYD as they take on more responsibilities and their passions are revealed.
There are many opportunities that arise through their association with SYD, from becoming a volunteer youth drama provider and working and influencing and inspiring younger children, to weekend trips to theatre land in london or other fabulous possibilities, the list is endless because they are devised, fund-raised and planned for in part by the young people themselves along with our dedicated youth drama team.

The commitment and dedication of taking a voluntary role is rewarded no end by learned skills and enjoyment and it wouldn't be the first young person to realise it looks good on a college or job application or the notorious Uni personal statement!

Whichever way you look at it, the benefits to the young person and the rest of the club of working together are immeasurable and certainly for us delightful, rewarding and inspiring.
